look :: 1950 Everybody's Weekly

Everybody's Weekly January 7, 1950
This is the last of my old magazine collection. So advertising in 1950 was actually pretty sexy with font and design. You can really see the influence we see in today's ads from this period.

'Good-looking' is all they can? Barbara is a total hottie.
When did we drop the 'a'? And nothing like a good 'fiddlesticks' to start your day!
See what I mean about great ad work in 1950?
I just love the 'experience tells a man...' you could put so many things after an intro like that.
I love products that help me make friends.
No words, I think this is a really great ad.
They gave up on the night-cap line eh? No it's in the small print.
Beef malt wine? Doesn't her face say 'being drunk makes walking with my kids fun'.
I bet some pens built today are mightier than jets built then.
I want one of these bikes.
I love celebrity endorsed soap, I just need to google her.
So in reading old, horribly sexist (and not to mention esteem destroying) advertising I was concerned that women didn't write letters to complain 'back in the day' but thankfully in this reader write-in section I learn women of all times wrote complaint letters. Hells yes!
